Why You’ll Love These homemade gogurts

  • Quality Ingredients: You have full control over the ingredients when you make yogurt tube at home. You can pick out your favorite fruits, yogurt, and add-ins and tailor the taste and texture to your liking.
  • Customization: Homemade yogurt tubes are infinitely customizable. You can experiment with different fruits, spices, and sweeteners to create unique flavor combinations that suit your taste.
  • Nutritional Benefits: By making yogurt tubes at home, you can boost their nutritional value. You can fully control the sweetness and can add extra ingredients such as flax seeds and hemp hearts making them a great choice for a healthy snack or breakfast option.
  • Freshness: Unlike store-bought versions that may have been sitting on shelves for weeks, homemade yogurt tubes are made fresh on the spot. This means they retain more of their probiotic content and their flavors are more vibrant and pronounced.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Buying individual tubes of yogurt from the store can add up! Making them at home is often more cost-effective. With just a few basic ingredients, you can whip up a batch of homemade yogurt tuves that will last you several servings, saving you money in the long run.

What You’ll Need

Here is what you’ll need to make these homemade gogurts:

Ingredients to make homemade gogurts.
  • Yogurt: The main ingredient for these yogurt drinks. I like to use plain whole-milk Greek yogurt since it is thick, creamy, and high in protein, but any type of yogurt will work.
  • Fruits: Be sure to pick out fruits that are juicy and ripe for the best natural sweetness! I made a strawberry, tropical fruit, and mixed berry flavor here, but any of your favorite fruits will work well!
  • Maple Syrup: For added sweetness to the yogurt tubes. The fruits provide some sweetness but the touch of maple syrup makes these yogurt tubes more similar to the store-bought variety. Feel free to omit or adjust the amount of maple syrup as desired.

See the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Ingredient Substitutions & Additions

  • Greek yogurt: Feel free to swap out Greek yogurt with a dairy-free alternative like coconut yogurt. If you are using a thinner yogurt, you may want to mix it in by hand so that the consistency isn’t too thin.
  • Maple Syrup: Maple syrup may be replaced with honey (note: honey should not be served to little ones under the age of 1).

Step By Step Instructions

Steps to make homemade gogurts.

STEP 1: Add the fruits and maple syrup to a blender and blend until completely smooth.

STEP 2: Add the Greek yogurt into the blender with the pureed fruit and lightly pulse it a few times until it is combined. You may also stir it in by hand. Avoid over-blending the mixture because this may result in a very liquid-like consistency. Lightly pulsing the mixture helps to ensure that it remains thick, similar to the consistency of store-bought yogurt tubes.

STEP 3: Taste the blended mixture and adjust the amount of maple syrup added as needed.

STEP 4: Pour the mixture into disposable or reusable tubes and store them in the fridge.

Storage Instructions

These homemade yogurt tubes can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. You may also freeze these tubes for up to 3 months. Frozen yogurt tubes are great for packing in lunchboxes because they will thaw and be ready to eat by lunchtime!

Tips For Success

  • If your mixture seems too liquidy, you can stir in a little more yogurt to help with the consistency. The yogurt will also slightly thicken when stored in the fridge, or you can freeze them for a few minutes to help achieve a thicker texture.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture for the mixed berry flavor, I recommend passing the blended berry mixture through a sieve first to remove the seeds before mixing in the yogurt.
  • You can also pour the yogurt mixture into reusable pouches for homemade yogurt pouches!

Recipe FAQs

Can I make these drinks in different flavors?

Yes! These yogurt tubes are fully customizable and you can use your favorite fruits or combination of fruits and veggies!

Can I use frozen fruits for these homemade gogurts?

Yes! If you are using frozen fruits, make sure to allow the fruits to thaw completely before blending them. This will ensure that they blend easily and into a smooth puree.

Do I Have to use Greek yogurt for these tubes?

Greek yogurt works best to achieve a thicker consistency similar to that found in storebought tubes, but normal yogurt works well. I use plain unsweetened varieties, but you could also use flavored yogurts, just be mindful that flavored yogurts contain added sugar and you may want to omit the maple syrup in the recipe.
