Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a classic but these peanut butter and jelly roll ups are a fun and different way to serve it up!
Many kids love a good old PB & J, but it can sometimes get boring always serving it between two slices of bread. These sushi-style rollups are a fun twist on the classic, can be topped with fun sprinkles and toppings, and are a great go-to quick lunch!

What You’ll Need
Here is what you’ll need to make these peanut butter and jelly rollups:
- Bread: I used whole wheat bread in this recipe, but you may use any type of sandwich bread.
- Nut Butter/Seed Butter: I like to use a natural style nut/seed butter that lists nuts/seeds as the only ingredient. My favorite type of peanut butter to purchase is the Kirkland brand Organic creamy peanut butter!
- Jelly: Look for jellies sweetened with fruit juices!
- Optional “Sprinkles”: Fun add on to top these rollups! I love to sprinkle them with items like shredded coconut, flax seeds, crushed nuts, and sprinkles!
Step By Step Instructions
- Remove the crust from the slices of bread and roll them out flat using a rolling pin.
- Spread a thin layer of peanut butter and jelly on each slice.
- Roll each bread slice into a tight log and slice it into pieces.
- Sprinkle each piece with toppings (ex: flax seeds, shredded coconut, crushed nuts, sprinkles, etc.) or serve as is!
Ingredient Substitutions
- Peanut butter: The peanut butter may be replaced with any other nut butter or seed-based butter.
- Jelly: The jelly may be replaced with freshly mashed berries.
Storage Instructions
These roll-ups are best served fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 2 days. They are great for prepping the night before and packing in school lunch boxes. If you are sending these sandwiches to school, you can swap out the peanut butter for sun butter depending on the school’s allergen requirements.
Recipe Notes
- Use bread that is easy to roll out. Some types of bread break apart easily and would not be ideal for these rollups.
- I like to use an all natural peanut butter with peanuts listed as the only ingredient. My favorite type of peanut butter to purchase is the Kirkland brand Organic creamy peanut butter! If you are sending these sandwiches to school, you can swap out the peanut butter for sun butter depending on the school’s allergen requirements.
- I like to sprinkle flax and chia seeds on top of the rollups for added nutrition. You can also sprinkle them with festive colored sprinkles to go with different holidays!
- These roll-ups can be customized with any fillings! Cream cheese, nutella, cookie butter, etc. are some other fun choices for fillings!

I made these for my toddler yesterday! I sprinkled the chia seeds on the pb&j before I rolled it up and used almond butter instead. It was a hit! Ty for the idea!
