What You’ll Need
Here’s what you’ll need to make these apple fritters:
- Apple: The star ingredient for these fritters. I highly suggest using a Honeycrisp apple for these fritters since they are crisp and naturally sweet, but you can use any sweet apple you have on hand. Fuji apples are my second favorite option next to Honeycrisp!
- Flour: I used all-purpose flour in this recipe, but you may replace it with a different type of flour.
- Egg: Used as a binder to help hold the fritters together.
- Baking Powder: Used to allow the fritters to rise.
- Cinnamon: Provides an extra warm spice and subtle sweetness.
See the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Ingredient Substitutions & Additions
- Egg: For an egg-free version, omit the egg and add in 2 extra tablespoons of flour, 2 tbsp milk, and 1 tbsp oil.
- All-purpose flour: You may replace the all-purpose flour with oat flour or whole wheat flour.
Step By Step Instructions
STEP 1: Preheat a frying pan over medium heat.
STEP 2: Grate the apple using the largest hole of a grater. You will want to have about 1/2 cup of grated apples.
STEP 3: Add the grated apples to a bowl along with the egg, flour, cinnamon, and baking powder. Mix until combined (Images 1 & 2).
STEP 4: Add 1 tablespoon of butter/oil to the preheated pan. Add one tablespoon of the apple mixture to the pan and press down lightly to form a mini fritter shape (Image 3).
STEP 5: Cook the fritters for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden on both sides (Image 4).
Storage Instructions
Let the fritters completely cool and store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days in the refrigerator. To freeze, store in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag for up to 3 months. You may reheat on low heat in a pan or simply microwave for 20-30 seconds, or until warmed through!
Tips For Success
- For an egg-free version, omit the egg and add in 2 extra tablespoons of flour, 2 tbsp milk, and 1 tbsp oil.

Canโt wait to try these for my little! We have a wheat allergy. Would almond flour work?
Hi Megan! I haven’t tried making these with almond flour so I’m not sure if they would hold their shape the same way, oat flour might be a good alternative if your little one is able to have oats๐
