These little salmon nuggets are so quick to make and packed with iron and essential vitamins that are great for baby’s development!

Salmon is rich in fatty acids and omega-3, making it a great source of protein for babies. They are a great handheld food with tender flakes of salmon in every bite!

What You’ll Need

Here is what you’ll need to make these salmon nuggets:

Ingredients to make salmon nuggets. See recipe card for detailed ingredient quantities.
  • Salmon Filet: I used boneless filet. Always press down on the salmon to check for bones, even on filets labeled boneless!
  • Panko Breadcrumbs: Be sure to use plain Panko breadcrumbs as some varieties contain added salt.
  • Eggs: Used as a layer to help the breadcrumb mixture stick to the salmon.
  • Parmesan Cheese: For added flavor.
  • Oil Spray: To help the nuggets obtain a golden brown color.

Step By Step Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (204 degrees C).
  2. Cube the salmon and season the pieces with garlic powder, black pepper and paprika.
  3. Add the breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese to a bowl and mix until combined.
  4. Whisk the egg and dip the salmon pieces into the whisked egg. Shake off the excess.
  5. Dip the salmon pieces into the breadcrumb cheese mixture to coat. Press down the breadcrumbs into the salmon so that they stick.
  6. Place the coated salmon on a parchment paper lined pan and spray with oil. This helps to ensure that golden brown color when baked.
  7. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Eggs: For an egg-free version, substitute the egg with unsweetened yogurt or a low-sodium ranch dressing.
  • Breadcrumbs: I use panko breadcrumbs in this recipe, but for a gluten-free version, replace the breadcrumbs with crushed gluten-free corn flakes.

Storage Instructions

Once cooled, the salmon nuggets can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. They can also be frozen for up to 1 month. 

Recipe Notes

  • The salmon nuggets can also be made in an air fryer! If you are cooking them in an air fryer, be sure to spray the patties with a cooking spray so that they have enough moisture to brown well while air frying.
  • Always carefully check salmon pieces for bones. Even ones that are labeled boneless may have hidden bones, so always press down on the pieces and massage them well to scan for any bones.

Salmon Nuggets

These salmon cakes are a great way to repurpose leftover salmon filets! Everything comes together in one bowl and is lightly pan-fried to form these crisp on the outside, tender on the inside patties!

    What are re heat instructions, after being frozen. Can you direct put them into the air fryer? And temp?

      Hi Joti! You can reheat these nuggets in an air fryer on the reheat setting (if your air fryer has one) or at 300F for 8 to 10 minutes, or until heated through.

    Can you use canned salmon? If so what would the quantity be?

      Hi Loryn! I don’t think canned salmon would work for these recipe since it usually comes in softer shredded chunks as opposed to whole, firm salmon pieces that are needed for these nuggets.
