These pancakes with pears are the perfect fruit-filled breakfast treat! They’re egg-free, soft, and fluffy, and have a sweet pear slice right in the center. Serve them up with some berries, a drizzle of maple syrup, or fresh on their own!

Pears are often overlooked behind apples, but they’re just as juicy, sweet, and delicious! You swap out the pears in this recipe for apples or bananas in these dipped banana pancakes, but you’ll have to give pears a shot as well for that warm, sweet flavor!

Here is what you’ll need to make these pancakes with pears:

Ingredients to make pancakes with pears.
  • Pears: The star ingredient for these pancakes. Try to use pears that are ripe and sweet, but not too soft and difficult to slice.
  • Flour: I used all-purpose flour for these pancakes for the best fluffy texture.
  • Milk: I used whole milk in this recipe, but dairy-free alternatives also work here.
  • Oil/Melted Butter: For a little added moistness to these pancakes. If using oil, make sure to use a mild-tasting oil.
  • Cinnamon: Warm spice for added flavor.
  • Baking Powder: Leavening agent to help the pancakes rise.
  • Maple Syrup: For subtle sweetness.

Ingredient Substitutions & Additions

  • All-purpose flour: You may replace the all-purpose flour with white whole wheat flour. I have not tested out any other flour variations.
  • Milk: You may replace the milk with a dairy-free alternative like coconut milk or oat milk.
  • Oil: Melted butter may be used in place of the oil.

Step By Step Instructions

Steps to make dipped pancakes with pears.

STEP 1: In a bowl, whisk together the milk, oil/melted butter, and maple syrup until combined (Images 1 & 2).

STEP 2: In the same bowl add in the flour, cinnamon, and baking powder and mix until a smooth batter forms. It is okay if there are a few small lumps in the batter (Images 3 & 4). Let the batter stand for 1-2 minutes as you prepare the pear.

STEP 3: Peel and slice a pear into thin circles (Image 5). You’ll want the slices to be fairly thin so that they fully soften on the pan when cooked. Use a small round object or mini round fruit cutter to cut out the core in the center of each slice to form the rings (Image 6).

STEP 4: Preheat a non-stick pan on medium-low heat. If needed, grease the pan with a light layer of butter or oil. Dip each pear ring into the pancake batter to fully coat it and shake off any excess batter (Images 7 & 8).

STEP 5: Place each coated pear on the pre-heated pan to cook. Once bubbles begin to form on the pancakes, flip them over and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until golden on both sides (Images 9 & 10). Serve with maple syrup or as is!

Storage Instructions

Let the pancakes completely cool and store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. To freeze, store in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag for up to 3 months. You may reheat on low heat in a pan or simply microwave for 20-30 seconds, or until warmed through!

Tips For Success

  • This recipe pancakes about 8 to 10 pear pancake rings. Feel free to double or triple the ingredients for a larger batch!
  • Make sure to thinly slice the pears so that they fully soften when cooked through on the pan. Thickly sliced pears, especially pears that are firm, may result in a chewier pancake center.
  • The secret to perfect even browning on pancakes is to not to grease the pan. If you have a really good nonstick pan, butter or oil isn’t necessary to coat the pan with, though cooking in butter does add flavor to the pancakes. I love using this non-stick pan set from caraway home!
  • If you are using oil, make sure to use a mild-tasting oil like avocado oil, extra light-tasting olive oil, coconut oil, or grapeseed oil.

What is the best type of pear to use for this recipe?

You’ll want to use pears that are ripe, but not too firm so that they are able to fully soften and cook through on the pan. I love using ripe Bosc pears, but any variety will work!

Can I swap out pears with a different fruit?

What should I do if I have leftover batter?

If you have any leftover batter, use it to make extra mini pancakes! The maple syrup in the pancake batter provides some slight sweetness making them great even without the dipped pear! You can also experiment with dipping other fruits as well!
