What You’ll Need

Here is what you’ll need to make these homemade ice pops:

Ingredients to make homemade ice pops.
  • Fruits: Pick your favorites! I made a variety of flavors using strawberries, mangoes, pineapples, apples, and blueberries, but any type of fruit will work. Feel free to add in some veggies like spinach or carrots.
  • Fruit Juice: Blended with the fruits to thin out the mixture. I love using 100% apple juice or 100% orange juice with no added sugar.
  • Maple Syrup: For added sweetness in the ice pops. You can adjust the sweetness level by adding more or less, or omit if completely if your fruits are sweet enough.
  • Lime Juice: Balances the sweetness of the fruits and helps the popsicles have a slightly smoother consistency.

See the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Fruit Juice: You may replace the fruit juice with plain water or coconut water.
  • Maple Syrup: You may swap the maple syrup with equal parts honey.
  • Lime Juice: This can be swapped with fresh lemon juice!

Step By Step Instructions

Steps to make homemade ice pops.

STEP 1: Blend the fruits (and veggies if using), juice, maple syrup, and lime juice until smooth. If the mixture seems thick, add a little extra liquid until smooth (Images 1 & 2).

STEP 2: Taste the fruit mixture and adjust as needed. Depending on how ripe your fruit is, you may want to add a little more maple syrup.

STEP 3: Pour the mixture into popsicle sleeves, leaving a little space at the top (Image 3). Freeze the ice pops for 4 to 6 hours, or until completely solid (Image 4).

    Storage Instructions

Store the ice pops in the freezer for up to 3  months. If you are using popsicle molds (instead of popsicle sleeves), remove the pops from the molds once frozen and store them in a freezer-safe bag or container.

    Tips For Success

    • Use a small funnel or measuring cup with a spout to pour the fruit mixture into the popsicle sleeves. Doing this helps prevent spills and makes filling easier.
    • Don’t overfill the popsicle sleeves. Leave about half an inch of space at the top to allow the liquid to expand as it freezes without bursting the sleeve.
    • I made 15 long ice pops (3 of each flavor) using these 11-inch popsicle sleeves. You can make between 20 to 25 smaller-sized pops by using these 7.5-inch popsicle sleeves. If you are making fewer flavors, I’d suggest doubling or tripling the ingredients to be able to make more pops.
    • Feel free to adjust the sweetness as desired. Depending on the ripeness of your fruits, you may be able to reduce the amount of maple syrup needed. Taste the mixture and add more if desired.

    Recipe FAQs

    Can I use frozen fruit?

Yes! I used a mixture of fresh and frozen fruits. If using frozen fruits, thaw them slightly so that they are a little easier to blend.

    Which veggies can I add?

Spinach, carrots, and cucumbers are great options to add in with mild flavors that won’t affect the taste of the popsicles too much.
