What You’ll Need
Here is what you’ll need to make these churro waffles:

- Water: The main liquid for the waffle base.
- Oil: For added moisture in the waffles. Oil also helps the waffles with browning.
- Maple Syrup: For added sweetness in the waffles.
- Salt: To balance out the flavors in the waffles.
- Flour: Mixed into the liquid base to form the churro dough.
- Cinnamon Sugar: To coat the cooked waffles with for that authentic churro taste.
See the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Recipe Substitutions & Additions
- Maple Syrup: The maple syrup may be replaced with equal parts granulated sugar.
- Flour: The all-purpose flour may be replaced with equal parts gluten-free all-purpose flour to make these waffles gluten-free.
Step-by-Step Instructions

STEP 1: Add the water, oil, maple syrup, and salt to a pan over medium heat. Give it a stir and bring to a quick boil. Once it comes to a boil, remove it from the heat (Step 1).
STEP 2: Add the flour to the liquid in the pan and use a spatula to quickly stir in the flour until it is combined into a dough. Use the spatula to work in the flour so that there are no specks of white remaining and the flour is fully incorporated (Steps 2 & 3).
STEP 3: Shape the dough into a large ball (Step 4).

STEP 4: Slice the dough ball into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a small dough ball (Step 5).
STEP 5: Place each dough ball in the center of a preheated mini waffle maker and press down firmly on the lid to close (Step 6). Cook the waffles in the waffle maker for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the steam stops emitting from the waffle maker and the waffles are golden brown (Step 7). These waffles take a little longer to cook than traditional waffles to ensure that the dough cooks through and the exterior is crisp.
STEP 6: Once cooked, immediately transfer the waffles into the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat (Step 8). Make sure to get in all of the crevices to ensure the waffle is fully coated for that perfect amount of cinnamon-sugar sweetness in every bite!

Storage Instructions
Let the waffles completely cool and store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days in the refrigerator. To freeze, store in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag for up to 2 months. You may reheat on low heat in a pan or simply microwave for 20-30 seconds, or until warmed through!
Tips For Success
- For fun waffle pops, insert popsicle sticks inside the dough balls prior to cooking. Once cooked, feel free to add a drizzle of caramel sauce or melted chocolate!
- If you are not using a mini waffle maker, cook the waffles until the steam stops emitting from the waffle maker and the waffles are golden brown.
- These waffles do not have the texture of traditional waffles and are intended to have a crispy exterior and slightly chewy interior to resemble churro sticks.
