Pizza is a filling comfort food, but trying to serve a little one a slice of pizza can sometimes turn into watching a glob of cheese hit the floor and sauce getting everywhere. These easy pizza roll ups are a fun, mess-free way for your little ones to enjoy it! You can fill them with all of the same toppings that you love on your favorite slice of pizza and serve them with a dip or on their own!

WHAT YOUโ€™LL NEED

Here is what youโ€™ll need to make these easy pizza roll ups:

Ingredients for pizza rollups
  • Puff Pastry: The main base and dough for these roll ups.
  • Pizza Sauce: You can definitely make your own pizza sauce, but I love the quality and taste of the Raos brand pizza sauce
  • Mozzarella Cheese: I used whole milk mozzarella cheese for these roll ups, but any variety works well.
  • Italian seasoning: For added flavor to the roll ups.
  • Toppings: I used pepperoni in these roll ups, but feel free to get creative with all of your favorite toppings!
  • Egg: Used for an optional egg wash to give the roll ups a nice golden brown color.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Unroll a sheet of puff pastry dough on a lightly floured surface.
  2. Spread the pizza sauce on the puff pastry dough, leaving some space off on the ends.
  3. Sprinkle the cheese, toppings, and Italian seasoning on top of the pizza sauce.
  4. Carefully roll the dough into a log.
  5. Slice the log into 8 pieces and place the pieces on a parchment-lined pan.
  6. Whisk one egg with 1 tablespoon of water to brush on top.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Once cooled, store the pizza rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To freeze, store in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag with parchment paper-lined between each roll to prevent sticking for up to 1 month. To reheat, bake at 350 degrees F for a few minutes until warmed. You may also microwave them,  but keep in mind that the puff pastry may become soggy.

SUBSTITUTIONS

  • Puff pastry: The puff pastry may be replaced with pizza dough or crescent dough. The total bake time will be the same.
  • Egg: The egg in this recipe is used for an egg wash and may be omitted, or replaced with melted butter.
  • Toppings: I used pepperoni for these pizza rolls, but feel free to use any toppings of choice or keep it plain for easy cheesy pizza rolls!

RECIPE NOTES

  • Do not overfill the puff pastry with the cheese and toppings as it will be difficult to roll up and slice into pieces. If some of the fillings start to fall out as you roll the dough into a log, try to tuck them back in or remove some of the fillings.
  • Make sure that your pastry dough is thawed, but not too soft. If it is too soft, it will be difficult to work with.
  • You can make your own pizza sauce, but I personally love the jarred Raos brand pizza sauce. It has clean ingredients and tastes great but any brand can be used!

Hi! My toddler loves these but my dough is still raw on the inside (though crispy outside). I followed your directions to a โ€œTโ€- any ideas on what I should do differently? Thanks!!

    1. Lily Payen says:

Hi Katie! Iโ€™m so sorry that happened! Do you mind sharing what brand of marinara sauce you are using? Iโ€™d suggest trying to use slightly less sauce and baking at a higher temp (around 400F) to see if that helps with the inside texture. I hope that helps for next time!๐Ÿ˜Š
