Air Fryer Egg Toast

Golden, crisp around the edges, and perfectly customizable, this air fryer egg toast is one of the easiest breakfasts to make when you want something simple but still filling. The bread gets lightly toasted while the egg cooks right in the center, making the perfect all-in-one breakfast with minimal prep.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread sturdy bread slices like sourdough, brioche, or thick whole wheat sandwich bread
  • 2 eggs
  • tsp salt
  • tsp pepper
  • butter (optional) to spread on toast
  • shredded cheese (optional) to sprinkle on in last few minutes of cooking

Instructions

  • If using butter, spread a thin layer onto both slices of bread.
  • Use the bottom of a mug, cup, or circular object to gently press an indent into the center of each slice of bread. Then use the back of a spoon or your fingers to press the center down further to create a well for the egg
  • Place the bread slices into the air fryer basket.
  • Carefully crack one egg into the center well of each slice of bread. Sprinkle the salt and pepper evenly between both slices
  • Air fry at 300°F until the eggs are cooked to your liking: 8–10 minutes for runny yolks, 11–13 minutes for jammy yolks, 14–15 minutes for firm yolks.
  • If adding cheese, sprinkle it over the toast during the last 2–3 minutes of cooking so it melts perfectly without overcooking.

Notes

  • Use sturdy bread so it holds the egg properly without becoming soggy. Thin sandwich bread can tear or sink in the center.
  • Press the well deep enough to help keep the egg contained while it cooks. If the indent is too shallow, the egg white may spill over the edges.
  • Cook times can vary slightly depending on your air fryer and the size of your eggs, so keep an eye on them the first time you make these. If your air fryer runs hot, you may want to reduce the cook time slightly to prevent the bread edges from getting too dark before the eggs finish cooking.
  • Adding cheese during the last few minutes helps it melt perfectly without becoming overly browned.
